Hula Palm Springs

Our Story
Hula Palm Springs was founded by Carla Kala Culbertson in 2000 in Cathedral City. Upon uniki (graduation) in 2012 in Ola'a, Hawai'i, Kumu (certified teacher) Kala was given a new halau name Kūhai Hālau O Kala'alohiikamakaokalaua'e Pā 'Olapa Kahiko. Kūhai meaning "properly following in the likeness of our lineage".
This group of men and women of all ages and dance levels share a common love for Hawaii and its culture. It is through appreciation the dancers work together for the opportunity to share aloha with others.
E Ho'omau ka hā I ka Hawai'i : Perpetuating the breath of Hawai'i

Our Lineage
Kumu Kala began her hula journey at age 5 in San Jose, California with teachers from the lineage of Joseph Kamohai Kaulelio, including Aunty Ehulani Lum.
She completed her ūniki under the tutelage of Lehua Kawaikapuokalani Hewett in 2012 who studied 'ōlelo Hawai'i and hula under Aunty Emma DeFries, Aunty 'Iolani Luahine, and Aunty Edith Kanaka'ole.
Our Kuleana
Our mission is to ho'omalu (to protect) and preserve an ancient hula lineage, hō'ike (to show) and share Hawai'i's culture with our community, and kulia i ka nu'u (to strive for the highest).
